Changing times...
It was another pleasant evening at my virar home last week (yep, i was on vacation :) ), n we were about to sit together and have tea. Now you see the world has seen all these bombings in the recent past, that the bombs have begun to even 'bomb' our daily doses of humour too... Mom switched on the tv jocularly saying , "chalo dekhein aaj kahan bum gira hai...". n boy wud she ever say that again !!! the channel was a news channel and pat it flashed the news "Islamabad: Marriott bombed. 60 dead".. We stared at each other and didn't know whether to laugh over the coincidence or be serious... wow !

Forrest Gump
"Mama always said, dying was a part of life."
"Mama always said, Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're goin' to get"
Mama always had a way of explainin' things so that I could understand.
Mama always said, you gotta put the past behind you in order to move on.

Food for Thought
The great pleasure is to do something in life that people say you cannot do;
The greater tragedy is to realize that it is not what you really wanted to do in life!

If it was a sacrifice, it never was a relationship !

'Reverse' Engineering ?
A central repository with version control and file comparison tools, A state-of-the-art IDE to work in, a near-to-perfect modular code structure and, above them all, a wonderful team ! That was my first project in TCS. Little wonder that I passionately rejected any ideas of quitting the 'govt. company' for a relatively lucrative offer.
But good things did more harm than good to me. For one thing, it did not equip me to deal with all kinds of ppl.... ok do hell with diplomacy... with ppl who r not so competitive (arrogance, huh !? :P naah, jst being honestly forthcoming :P)... For another, I never realized the true worth of the IDE, nor the modularity that the first project offered. Want to add a new element on the web-site ! Whoops! Its done... Want to change this, remove that... Whoops whoops ! Its done again !! It was all so easy on my mind, that I became a lazy chum.. finding enough time to write a few stupid blogs even ! As if that wasn't enough, my stupid project was written so well that it hardly needed any maintenance - all of us were thrown out of work (And then it struck me - I kicked myself out of work !!!)
My current project rocks ! For one thing, it carries the legacy and antiquity of processes that stone-age software developers must have overthrown at the very first experience with them !!! I am no more lazy - I work 10 hours to accomplish what I would have accomplished in 1 hour in my first project! I get the freedom to 'enjoy' keeping track of versions of files myself due to lack of a version control software. I now have stories to tell to my friends which I never had before - each one could contest for 'height of stupidity in IT projects these days' award. To top it all, the system still behaves in ways unfathomable to my lesser mind ! Wow ! Seems like the system has a mind of its own, as it chooses to remain unpredictable, mimicking humans, hoping to keep the 'zing' of our system-developer relationship 'warm' and 'cozy' just as in case of humans ;-)
It really is worth noting that while the software engineers of the yesteryear experienced something like my second project first and then went on to make our lives easier, I seem to be moving in exactly the opposite direction !!! By that logic, next project would be like............ naaahhhiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii :P :P :P ;-)
Voilaaaaaa !!!! As I write this post, I came to know of my NITIE call convert ! - My first convert of the year... but hopefully not the last ;-)

A new chapter in my blog-life ?!
I am beginning to love blogging... Today I visited google blog search for the first time. And for reasons quite understandable to those who don't know me and unfathomable to those who do know me :P, the first search string that came to my mind was 'VJTI'. Now, for the uninitiated ones, that's my beloved college's name (actually, all instis. i hv been thru till date are my beloved ones :P, VJTI stands out in that it was beloved for reasons other than academic ones :P :P :P )...
I tumbled across a couple of blogs. I enjoyed both -
This list is surely gonna grow big with time... !

"Aamchi aai tumchi aai..." in news... :)
It was exhilarating to read the following article in today's TOI -
A Scholarship Website by Students
Back in those days when I was a student at VJTI, I had a much better exposure to students of all the branches as I stayed in the hostel. I recollect now that a sizeable proportion of students who came from different parts of the state indeed needed financial assistance. Finally, hope smiles back at those who deserve :) Der aaye durust aaye... :)

MBA
There are two parallel but converse trends in modern day world. One is making computers more like humans and the other doing conversely. The former is called AI and the later MBA!!

Dadhi mhanala...
A person may have Pradnya (intelligence). A person may have Medha (brilliance) as well - an iota over and above intelligence. But what matters most is Pratibha or creativity - a gift that only rare ones are endowed with.
-- Dadhi, a true Konkani at heart !
P.S.: I wanted to write this piece in marathi. But blogspot/mozilla does not have that provision it seems.

A key aspect of any Bike Rider
The first thing you learn in swimming is to be comfortable with being under water. I think this concept of trivializing the danger doesn't restrict itself to swimming.
With experience, I have realized that I have developed the art of being comfortable (read that as escaping with NO injury - to me as well as my bike - yes, this is possible) with minor accidents. It involves development of your instincts so that you tackle those few D-seconds with such agility and presence of mind, that you drive away after it as if nothing had happened.
Also, with time, you learn to get away with such 'glitches' even in not-so-minor accidents. Errr yes, beyond that............................. better stop thinking like me about driving...... :P

Time
Time is an illusion. The only thing that can be proven with finality to exist is the present moment. Hence essentially, time is the current moment put into an infinite loop of execution. I wonder who decided the time-rate at which the loop executes... :-$

The Mirage
All the while I saw something whose existence I doubted - it appeared a bit different than normal. Nevertheless I kept looking at it from a distance as it was apparently very beautiful and enticing. I lured myself into hoping that it would turn out to be a reality (or, become one if it were not) as I approached it in due course of time. As I approached it I found it vanishing from my sight. I found it wasn't real. It did upset a bit. Afterall you don't spend all your effort and time and dreams and wishful hopes on something that does not exist!
But I needn't complain. For, I was not sure ever whether it existed or not. And I am not even sorry for what happened. I can feel the difference that this experience has made to me - a difference not easy to put in words, suffice it to say that it is positive.
Now that the upset mood slowly subsides, I think about it and I realize that I was unsure about how I would have handled it, had it been real! I now feel that pursuing it isn't my cup of tea. I feel so at least for now. But I hope that that changes soon. For, I am the quintessential optimist. "I would risk hurting myself a 100 times by trying to find it and failing rather than losing it by not at all going for it".
